Video of the Day: Mamamoo - Mr. AmbiguousTuesday, July 15, 2014
Why haven't I heard about this group until now?
Apparently, Mamamoo is a four-member rookie girl group who made their official debut with "Mr. Ambiguous" last month, and I have to say that I'm very impressed. These girls could totally rival SPICA with their vocals and they seem to carry lots of sass as well.
The song is not your typical K-pop song as it has a more jazzy sound to it, which I love. It is very catchy, but also vocally very well performed. I can see that this is going to be their musical style - charismatic, jazzy and powerful.
And the music video is so cool. It is filmed and edited in a way to look like it's the making-of the music video, though at the same time we do get a good look at the actual music video. The choreography is funky and goes together with the song really well. What's even more awesome is that the video also features a lot of known K-pop stars and musicians, who play different staffers on the set.
But perhaps the best part of the video is when Baek Ji Young, one of the most respected Korean ballad singers, plays a secret camera prank on the girls, scolding them for not singing live and not having good expressions. You can literally see the girls' faces fall when they're being criticized by their senior like that. It's funny but also made me feel really bad for the girls because they thought it was real and started to tear up already. Of course, later Baek Ji Young gives them all hugs and apologizes for trolling them.
Anyways, Mamamoo definitely has caught my eye. The group is awesome, the song is awesome, the video is awesome.
I also recommend you to check out the live performances. Mamamoo has a great stage presence and their live singing is just as good as the studio recording.
